Is there any way to password protect my laptop using
Windows ME? I would like to require the use of a password
when powering on or returning from sleep or hibernation.

Have you considered posting your question in a Win9x newsgroup?
This one looks at Windows 2000, which is a completely different
beast from Windows ME.

Greetings --

Set a boot password in the laptop's BIOS. Consult the manual that
came with the laptop for specific instructions.
