I have a similar problem with my rather old Samsung ML-6060 laser
printer. Whenever I try to print on paper from the bottom cassette it
picks up two sheets, the second one a couple of inches behind the
first, and that second one jams. At the moment I'm feeding in through
the front hand-feeding "table", which gives no trouble.
I had a similar problem with a Canon LBP350 which uses a feed from the
rear (gravity) either out the front or up the front again (vertical
eject). I replaced the rubber on the paper-feed roller mechanism with
a new one, carefully built up from two layers of thinner rubber cut to
size, and this appears to be what after-market fix-kits do too.
(note: cleaning the rubber with alcohol is supposed to roughen the
rubber again, but it also hardens it over time, so it is not a
long-term solution, but will certainly work for a time until the
rubber becomes too old even for that treatment)
