Having major problems with a customers Dell Dimension 4800.
This is a SATA only machine. When it boots the systems gives a messages
that \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt.
I tried to use the recovery console but I end up with the BSOD with
Page Fault in Non Paged Area. Guessing this may be a hardware issue, I
removed the hard disk and put it in a different machine...same thing
with the recovery console.
OK, so maybe the Dell restore disk is bad. Used my XP Pro disk...same
thing.
Booted the system with my own hard disk and the users as a slave and I
could view the contents of the disk. Went to make sure I could actually
read the registry files in CONFIG and I can.
What I can't figure out is how to fix registry files on a disk that I
didn't boot from or find out why I cannot run the recovery console.
Any hints or ideas would be most welcome.
Oh, one final thing, the stop message was something like
0x000051 (0xc3e8e9fe, 0x00000001, 0x8090878b, 0x00000000) (I think the
0x00000000 is right).
Regards
