page cannot be displayed after XP repair

XP & IE6 SP1

XP hung while Outlook 2000 was running. Hard shutdown.
Boot stopped after XP splash screen but before desktop,
even in safe mode.

After repair of XP, I upgraded to SP1; clean booted,
scanned for viruses [ slaved hard drive into a 2nd
computer ], ran a winsock repair tool.

Any thoughts other than fdisk, format & re-install?

I get an IP address.

I can ping yahoo's IP address & friendly address, with no
problems.
