Outlook opens when I close the lid.

Hi, I have a Gateway laptop running Win XP Home SP2 and all current updates,
and Office 2003 STE SP2 and all current updates and I use Outlook to connect
to Hotmail from the desktop. My problem is that I use Gateway Power
Management (this also happens using Windows' power management options) and I
have it set to go into Standby when I close the lid of the laptop. Whenever
I open the lid back up I find Outlook loaded, connected and displayed. This
started about 3-4 weeks ago and is not something I have chosen or selected
and it started happening spontaneously. I can find no control to stop this
behavior and I'm concerend that Windows is not entering the lower power state
when close the lid and don't want to go through the hassle of closing Outlook
anyway. I am running ZoneAlarm Sec. Suite 2005 and five different reputable
spyware progs, and I get no reports of malware. Anybody know how to turn off
this "Feature" ?

Can you be more specific here? Is "desktop" another machine on your network
or...?

At face value, what you describe sounds like default behavior when resuming
from Standby to me. Perhaps Hibernate is what you want instead?

Resume from Hibernate or Standby in Seconds:

With Standby, the system shuts down your monitor, hard drive, and other
devices, but maintains power to random access memory (RAM). Your open
documents and applications are stored in RAM as if your system were fully
powered, so you can pick up where you left off very quickly.

In the same way, Windows XP helps your computer start faster when you use
Hibernate. This feature saves the contents of RAM to your hard disk in
compressed form so you can turn your laptop or desktop computer completely
off. When you turn on the power, your documents and applications are open
just as you left them so you can start work quickly.
