Outlook messages tally is wrong

The number of unread messages in each folder is displayed in folder view and
in Outlook Today. I have several folders that list numbers of messages that
don't jive with the messages that are there when I open the folder. For
example, folder A lists 13 unread messages but there are only 4 messages in
the folder and two of them are unread. I delete the unread messages and then
the tally lists 11 unread messages. This isn't a huge deal but it's
inconvenient to always think there are messages there and there aren't. It
happens in at least several folders.

why?

Check (or reset) your view to see if there are any filters set. If there are
none you can reset the counter by rightclicking the folders and choose "Mark
all as read"
