Outlook Hanging "Please wait while Microsoft Outlook exits"

Nelson

Hi,

I'm having this problem when I close Outlook, it
shows "Please wait while Microsoft Outlook exits" but it
never closes. If I open another Outlook session and I
verify the processes I have two Outlook.exe running.

Is this a known bug from Outlook 2000, I have this problem
in a few computers. I did a repair of office 2000 and I'm
still having the problem. is there any solution ?

TIA

Hi Nelson,

Try running Outlook with the /cleanfreebusy switch and see if you get the
same behavior.

If it works then it most likely is an add-in issue.

Hi Harvey,

I tried with the /cleanfreebusy switch and I'm still
having the problem.

The users I'm having the problem with, don't use any
application that interact with Outlook as far as I know.
They have windows 2000 Pro. SP4 with Office 2000.

Thanks for your reply.

Nelson

Have you EVER accessed your Exchange mailbox with Outlook 2003? I have
found that after accessing an Exchange mailbox (in my case, Exchange 5.5 SP4
on a Windows 2000 SP4) with OL2K3, that any incident of using OL2K will hang
when exiting just as you have described. I have reports of this happening
on a small amount of my users, yet not on others.

I'm still looking for the cause/solution myself.

We think it might be due to the added field in the free/busy
information added in Outlook 2003 but so far that's speculation. It
does seem that one or more starts of Outlook 2000 using the
/resetfolders and /cleanfreebusy switches helps. At least that's what
ended the hanging problem on my Outlook 2000 after it touched a
mailbox that was also touched with Outlook 2003.

Other possible culprits could be rules (different in Outlook 2003,
they are Unicode) and/or custom views.

I used the /resetfolders and /cleanfreebusy switch, not
working.

The only thing I didn't try is to Completly re-install
Outlook.

Thanks

Reinstalling OL will not work... I have tested this fairly well. If you
REALLY want to stop the hang, create a new mailbox for the user and do not
access it with OL2K3.

I am having the same problem with a few machines on our network
running Windows XP and had Office 2003 installed. We had to remove
Office 2003 because of an issue with Word 2003 and embedded, large
tiff files. The way that I solved the problem was to remove the mail
profile, create a new profile and run the Outlook /resetfolders and
/cleanfreebusy switches. This worked for three machines so far.
