If I go to the Hotmail Site via Inernt Explorer, and checking my account by

The Hotmail servers have a hitch in their git-along
sometimes.

Sometimes I get an error when sending Hotmail, "The server
doesn't support the required HTML protocol." If I resent,
it works. Sometimes Hotmail works and sometimes it doesn't,
what do you want for free.

Has the account ever worked in OE?

That combination of errors is extremely infrequent. Try the account in a
new Named Identity (File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is
well, import messages from the old Identity's Local folders (don't bother
with the Hotmail ones) before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

The combination is most often seen in non-USA based Hotmail accounts where
OE will use a non-USA HTTP server (e.g., ninemsn.com.au). There may be a
workaround.

Then the problem is most likely on Hotmail's end. Assuming you can access
your Hotmail account online, do so until Hotmail cleans up its act (<LOL>).
