Outlook 2007 will not display unread messages

I cannot get Outlook 2007 to display unread messages. Steps taken so far:

1) Delete the homepage. The mail messages do not appear in the Personal
Folders that holds Outlook Today.

2) Went to Customize Outlook and selected show Inbox. Outlook says
encountered a problem and must close. Tried this repeatedly.

3) Uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, but not Office 2003.

4) Disabled email scanning in Norton 360, sent and received messages. The
incoming counter goes up, but no messages to be found.

The counter in the upper right shows incoming unread and it increases with
each refresh. But they are not to be found.

Is this the unread folder in Favorite Folders?

Do you use rules to move message? did you reset the view on the folders or
open outlook using the /cleanviews switch?

Sorry, what was I thinking.

This is Outlook 2003. The "unread" folder is the Inbox.

any ideas?

The counter in the upper right should say Inbox and the unread messages.

The "Inbox" word is missing. When I try to customize the view and select
Inbox, Outlook has a fatal error and shuts down.

try restarting outlook using the /resertnavpane switch.

Thank you so much for the help. Unfortunately, it did not work.

What if I restart Outlook 2003 with a virgin pst and test? If it works, I
could then just copy my archive folders to the new pst.

What do you think?

I tried restarting with /cleanpst and IT WORKED.

Refreshed email and all the new unread appeared in the inbox.
