outlook 2007 slow

outlook 2007 is so slow compared to 2003. running on a Core2 Duo T7600 with
3gb RAM so cpu power is not the issue. 2003 was fast and snappy. 2007
crawls like a newborn baby. I disabled all 3rd party outlook add-ins and
related software, ran the Office Diagnostic, checked for udpates, upgraded my
Rules, etc. My main PST is only about 225Mb, the Archive PST is about 900Mb.
So nothing special there.

This software needs some *serious* optimization before I would even think
about deploying it at my office. I can just hear the users crying already.
Hopefully they will focus energy on making this thing run faster for SP1.
Otherwise I'm sad to say that nobody is going to care about the flashy new
interface if it takes 2 minutes just to open the program and Send & Receive...

I assume it is only slow during send/receive? This is a know issue in the
RTM release which seems to happen when there are multiple (POP3) accounts
configured and various RSS feeds and have RSS configured to synch with the
system feeds.

Disabling the synch with the system feeds improves send/receive performance
significantly. As a workaround to synch you only enable it when you've made
actual updates to your subscriptions.

I can asure you that the Outlook team is currently looking into the issue
already and looking for methods to optimize the send/receive process.

FWIW; I just collected 400 messages worth around 25MB in less than a minute
with system feed synch disabled.

It is just slow in general. Navigating the folder tree, switching views,
composing new messages, even a noticably annoying "lag" when typing (this
seems to occur in both Outlook as well as the other office 07 apps such as
Word). It can be expected that the new version would be *slightly* slower
due to the new features and increased system requirements, however this is
drastically slower than 2003 and to the point of unusability.

I am not subscribed to nor am I using synch with the RSS feature. I do have
3 POP accounts but only 1 of them is part of the automatic scheduled
send/receive group.

I really hope that SP1 comes out before too long and makes this thing at
least close to the performance of 2003.

Roady,

Can you explain how to disable the synching to system feeds, I can't seem to
find it. I have the same problem as everyone else, unusable sending and
receiving. I have Vista RTM and Office 2007 RTM running on a new Dell with
3.5GB ram. Nothing special at all, pop3 with Cox and a 15MB pst..Any other
suggestions appreciated.

Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, "Synch RSS Feeds with System
Feed List". Uncheck that setting.

so far the only thing that has worked for me... to solve this send and
receive issue is going to Tools > Options > Mail Format - under HTML Format
disable the Reduced file size of option.... This prevents Outlook from
editing every single email as it is received... for me this was a Huge
Perfomace increase on Dual Core 3G machine with 1G of ram... At least I
think that's what did it...
