Outlook 2007 slow

I have an hp dv9000 laptop with 2GB RAM, 2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo, 80GB 7200rpm
drive. My ost file is about 4GB.

Performance with Outlook 2003 was fine. Performance with Outlook 2007 is
EXTREMELY slow!!

After doing a lot of searches on various forums I found that I am not alone,
seems like Outlook 2007 performance is very bad for many other users as well.

Is there a plan to fix this performance issue in the very near future, like
in the next month or so, or should I simply roll back to Outlook 2003??

Slow when doing what? How do you have things configured? If you're not more
specific it is hard to tell what is causing you the lack of performance.
There are a couple of instances of slow performance under investigation but
these are mainly related to send/receive progress. There is no ETA for that
yet.

Hello,

I have a question about Outlook Express 6 but for some reason this forumn
will not allow me to start a new question. Anyway, perhaps you can steer me
in the right direction. No matter what I do in Outlook Express I can not
change the font size for outgoing mail messages. I have canged them in all
places but the font always reverts back to size 12.

It is slow in general. I.e.
- Opening up emails
- Moving between folders
- Opening the calendar on moving around in the calendar

The application is constantly slow, from times it is responding ok, but then
it hangs and thinks (about something) for 5-10 secs when performing one of
the tasks above.

I am connected to an Exchange 2003 server using cached exchange mode.

Let me know what additional info/log files, etc. I should provide in order
to assist with troubleshoting this issue.

By simply doing a search for "outlook 2007 slow" I find several other people
with similar issues who already rolled back to 2003, so before doing the same
myself I just wanted to know if I am missing something or if there is SP
comming out soon.

The core of the problem seems to be related to the size of the Outlook file,
mine is 4GB, my college who is not experiencing any issues only have 3 months
of emails, the rest is archived, and his system works fine.

I'd rollback. Other solutions that might work:

- archive most of your messages to reduce the size of your mailbox
- upgrade to Windows Vista. Doesn't solve all the problems, but is much
better than XP for some reason

4GB? Ah, then it makes some more sense; the indexing process is really busy
then to build the initial index. Leave the computer on overnight so it has
time to index. With 4GB you might want to make that 2 nights. Before it is
fully indexed performance can lack quite a bit (how much you'll notice this
depends also on the hardware specs).

Archiving is of course also a possibility (from a technical point of view
that is).

Vista has better memory management than Wndows XP for applications that run
during "idle time" like the indexer. In Windows XP background applications
will take the memory of applications that aren't being used when the
computer is idle. When you return your applications will gradually claim
back that memory. When you return on a Windows Vista computer the memory
state is being restored to what is was before the computer became idle. In
other words; the foreground applications directly get back their memory.
