Outlook 2007 sending thousands of emails. HELP

When I hit the Send/Receive button, I see in the 'sending message' box
thousands of messages being sent. Also the taskbar icon flashes rapidly and
says 'Outlook is synchronizing folders. I am now receiving junk mail from me
to me.I cannot send any emails, as those thousands must first process before
mine. The only way to stop it is Alt/Control/Del and kill Outlook. Did
something take control and turn my computer into a zombie machine? Would
really appreciate any help.
I have Outlook set to auto send/receive every 5 minutes. There is no problem
with the auto send/receive, its only when I manually hit the send /receive
button or try to send an email. I do not have Microsoft Exchange. When I look
in the sent items folder, only my legitimate emails are showing. I can't
believe I have to PAY Microsoft to ask this question just because I've owned
Outlook for more than 3 months. So much for standing by their products and
good customer service.
