Outlook 2003 - missing image on reply or fwd signature HELP

PLEASE HELP.

Outlook 2003 fails to display jpeg image on reply or forward - Outlook 2002
works every time. A red x appears each time we reply or forward an email with
the image included in the signature. I can send to myself and recreate. The
original email signature image stays with the email and functions but when it
is forwarded and the second person inserts the signature it is stripped and
the red x appears where the image belongs.

Microsoft Outlook 2003 Security feature?

We use Office 2002 Professional and have updated to Exchange 2003.
We have migrated all users to Outlook 2003 and continue to use Office 2002.
All service packs have been installed. Mixed 2P and XP workstation in AD
network.

We have placed a standard company wide signature using Frontpage 2002 for
all users with our company image included.

What happens is there is a red X when you reply or forward the signature to
other email users. The first sent image is always send with the email. REFER
to Example below.

All of the information I have found refers to Outlook but does not address
the new security features in Outlook 2003 and how to adjust.

EXAMPLE:

The images shows up as a outbind. The original always appears but the
forward or reply has the red x.
Image source example: Same email

(SAME EMAIL)

Reply or forward FAILS: = outbind://25/XXXXX%20Xirect%20Source-125.jpg

I am also having the same problem! The images in our signature are supposed
to be embedded pictures (source for IMG tag in original email is
"cid:[email protected]"). When the message is Replied to or
Forwarded the src attribute for the IMG changes to
"outbind://35/ourlogo.jpg". The image file is then attached to the message as
an attachment and there is the image with the red X in its place. What causes
it to change? I can find no answers anywhere on the Net. If you know why this
is happening, please post a quick reply with a workaround.

I too am having this problem on an occasional basis with html signatures that
I design for clients. In Outlook, "outbind://24/" is the code added to the
image tag, so it is something like this:
<IMG
src="outbind://24/http://www.domainnamehere.com/images/emailsig_logo.gif"
border=0>
The images that are used in the signature reside on the client's web server
and are references with absolute URLs. If I forward the email to another
email address, the Outbind is automatically removed and the image shows up
fine. Therefore, it must be some internal issue with Outlook. If anyone has
a solution please post.

Hiya,

I have the same issue. It seems more random in my case. It is not dependant
on Outlook (MSO) version. However seems to only affect the gif files. Unlucky
is that when pasting from an application like MS Visio the default format is
gif.

The only steady factor I have been able to track is that the image is
visible when the src reference in the code of the mail does not list the file
type. When is does list the file type it is not visible. See examples below:

[In RTF JPG FROM ALEX2 (MSO 2003 TO XXBEHEER (MSO XP)] - pic visible
</DIV><IMG
src="cid:062295022@08022006-318C"><BR>

[In RTF JPG FROM ALEX2 (MSO 2003 TO XXBEHEER (MSO XP)] -pic visible
<DIV><IMG src="cid:021482513@08022006-3021"></DIV>

[FORMAT UNKNOWN FROM MULLENDERS (MSO XP) TO ALEX2 (MSO 2003)] -pic not visible
<STRONG><IMG height=114
src="outbind://38/tux_linux_lg_clr.gif" width=156 align=left
border=0></STRONG>

[FORMAT UNKNOWN FROM MULLENDERS (MSO XP) TO ALEX2 (MSO 2003)] -pic visible
<STRONG><IMG height=114
src="cid:047164910@08022006-07FC" width=156 align=left
border=0></STRONG>

[FORMAT UNKNOWN HANS DE GROOT (MSO 2003 TO XXBEHEER (MSO XP)] -pic not visible
<img
width=672 height=507 src="cid:[email protected]">

[In HTML JPG FROM ALEX2 (MSO 2003) TO XXBEHEER (MSO XP)] - pic visible
<IMG SRC="No%20AttachName" alt="Picture (Device Independent Bitmap)"></FONT>
</P>

Needless to say I would sure like to hear from anyone who has tackled the
issue.

Fix

Fixing the problem

You need to enable HTML and Word to edit email message, this can be located under TOOLS/ OPTIONS/ MAIL FORMAT.

Select HTML and then Tick "Use office word

To deploy a fix to all machines you can changing the registry that will enable both HTML and Edit emails with WORD.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail]
"EditorPreference"=dword:00020001

copy and save above fix.reg then run it.
