Outlook 2003 all unread messages marked as read within 5 minutes

Messages in Inbox start as unread and automatically get marked as read within
5 minutes just sitting in the Inbox. They are not being clicked on and am not
using the preview pane. Have I Hate Spam and have uninstalled it but did not
fix the problem. Have all the latest updates for Office 2003.
