Messages marked as read after 5 to 10 minutes

Here is my situation:

Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003
& another
Windows 2003 Terminal Server
Office 2003

I have some users accessing Outlook (exchange account) via the terminal
server. When they are in their inbox, all unread messages suddenly get
marked as read. Whether there is one or one hundred messages, the same
occurs in about 5-10 minutes. The Reading Pane is turned off, and all
Reading Pane selections are off.

Any ideas???

Also, if the users access their mail via their Outlook on thier desktops the
message remain unread like the should.

Hi,

Try tools, options, 'other tab', reading pane and remove the tick from the
box 'mark item as read when the selection changes'.

Try this and see, let me know the results.

The problem is still occurring. Any other suggestions? I really do not
think the reading pane has anything to do with it. I have even created a
brand new Outlook profile, and it still occurs.

If it's not the Reading Pane options, then I suspect you have an add-in
scanning messages and marking them read somehow.

OK, I found the problem. The user has a Palm Treo that is accessing the
email via POP access and deleting the messages from the server. The Exchange
profile is seeing this activity in the mailbox, and marking the messages as
read. Strange thing is, according to Verizon, this is impossible.
