i am in the processing of establishing a standardized company signature block
with an embedded logo. everything works fine without the logo but once i
insert the logo (picture) i get an error upon opening a new outgoing email
and all that appears is my wording and blank rectangles where to logo should
be. the logo is a tif file. can this be done and if so (in simple language)
how do i accomplish this? thanks for helping

It begs the question, why? May of your recipients won't be able to see it
anyway, if their mail client doesn't support the format you use to send or
if their mail client blocks embedded graphics for security reasons.

At any rate, see if something here helps:

we have seen it done by many of our consultants and associates and feel it
looks very nice so would like to incorporate it. since i wrote i have been
told that the reason i get the rectangles with red X in corners is because
the logo file can't be found and that i need to link it to make it work, but
how do i do that?
