OT: How to download a folder?

I've uploaded a group of files to my home page (not an FP site) by
placing them all in a folder, say Foldername for the purposes of this
query. I used my FTP program and all seemed to upload correctly.

But how do I specify this folder for a friend to download please? I
thought
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Images/Foldername
would be OK, but that just gave 'Page not found'.

This is just a collection of files from a CD. So far a burned copy of
that which I sent him 15 days ago has still not arrived (in Goa,
India), so I'm doing this as an alternative.

You would have to do one of the following:
1. zip the folder, and then provide him with a link to the zip file
2. provide him with FTP access to your account
3. have you host set up Anonymous FTP to the specific folder

Thanks, Thomas, appreciate that fast reply.

I rather think he might find FTP difficult. So looks like I may have
to upload again. And the zipped folder is barely smaller than the
original ;-[

The benefit of a zip file is that it's one file.

I suspec the URL doesn't work since your web server is set to not
respond to giving you a file list if you don't specify a file name. If
you were to point to specific files then the URL's should work. However,
since you are sending a lot of files, that would get tedious to download
each on individually ... so help yourself and your friend by zipping it
into one file and give them the full URL, e.g.

http://www.somesite.org/foldername/zipfilename.zip

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Thanks Rob. I uploaded the ZIP version successfully and am now waiting
to hear from my friend that he's been able to download OK.

Wouldn't you know it? Minutes after my friend saw the ZIP ... the
postman arrived with the CD! (16 days from UK to Goa, India.)

well, you know that the most effective/fastest way to send data, from a
bandwidth perspective, is still to load up a 747 with floppy disks and
CD's and fly the data. Maybe even be effective, all things considered,
to load a ship with floppy's and CD's. Feel good your CD was on that
ship. :-)

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
