Publishing and FTP

A client has given me several folders with read/write
access in his web in which to put test files. All
supposedly have FP extensions installed. This is his own
Window's-based server.

I know uploading via FTP in FrontPage is not doable, but I
did want to check out the FTP link if I needed it in the
future, so I uploaded a test web via Cute FTP and
downloaded some files to my PC - this worked fine.

But I can't upload the same files using either FTP or http
in FrontPage.

First question - Have I already corrupted the FP
extensions by using CuteFTP?

(I don't want to give you names, so bear with my generic
terminology below).

In FrontPage this is what happens when I try to publish
using http:

I enter the complete URL to publish to:
http://www.webname.com

If I put the name of the main folder he's given me after
that http://www.webname.com"/foldername" FP says there is
no web, asks to create one and gives me the User name and
Sign on dialogue:

Site Name: www.webname.com
User Name: Username
Password: password
Domain: www.webname.com - (I don't see this option on my
other client FrontPage sites - what is it?)

Then I'm prompted repeatedly for a password and I'm stuck.

If I use FTP in FrontPage, FP doesn't seem to "see" the
files I'm trying to upload from my testweb and results in
the error: 550 error - Access Denied.

HELP!

TIA!

Yes
- FTP to a FP SE will usually corrupt the FP SE (especially any .htm files)
Have the host repair the FP SE and don't use FTP again
Use File publish and enter the URL as
http://www.webname.com/foldername/

PS those folders are subwebs and treated as webs by FP
