Notice one has to choose between US English, Canada English
and Canada French. Why the distinction for English....is it
because there are more EH's in the Canada version??

No real idea but for our use of "our" in spelling things like "colour",
"flavour" etc... EH!
I use the US English version of WinXP as using Canadian English messes up my
prefered sort order of MM/DD/YY.
If you choose US English then Canadian cities/provinces are not visable for
ordering/shipping.

Has anyone managed to place an order there?

I went to the site, selected language, the was redirected to another
page that said only:

Microsoft is processing your order(s)

Please wait

......

The status bar at the bottom said "Done", and one of the five dots
below the text was darkened, as though this were a progress bar.

I waited fifteen minutes twice, and nothing happened. Doesn't look too
promising....

seconds (Australia)!

Interesting. I tried it again just now, and had exactly the same
result, except I left it alone for 37 minutes this time without any
change in the brain-dead message displayed.

It makes no sense to me that MS is processing my order when the only
information entered (or demanded) is the version of English required.

Would like to know whether the page described above is the same as
that seen by those who have successfully completed the ordering
process, and also what the following screens display.

The only other information I have is that my system connects to the
URL:

131.107.101.43

when I select the language version (whether US English or Canadian
English).

Is there any indication of the size of the data on the CD?

Not sure this helps any, but I also went and 'placed an order' for the cd
(although I already have ALL the security updates. I had absolutely no
problems what-so-ever... processed in less the 15 seconds. And I haven't yet
come across any information about the size of all contained information upon
the cd rom yet, though I have been looking.

It worked for me. Something is getting your browser stuck. Yes it is
senseless that the "please wait" screen says it is processing your order,
even on the very first step, but they use that same screen for the next
two steps.

The web page said I will get the October 2003 release, but the confirming
email said February 2004.

I have the MS url in my Trusted Sites zone which has everything
enabled. I pasted the url into IE and I got the standard "Does
Not Compute" error page.

Closed IE and opened Firebird, enabled java scripting and it went
right to the page. I placed my order and was done in a few minutes.

I am keeping IE updated in case I need it. Isn't that a laugh!

I looked into the newsletter they mentioned during the processing
but it required that .net be installed and I have enough MS stuff
to worry about now, so I passed on it.

After the "Microsoft is processing..." screen I got a screen that said
there was a problem placing the order and asked me to call Customer
Service. Didn't feel like going through that hassle so I just exited.
Oddly enough, when I checked my email later I had a message from
Microsoft acknowledging my order. However, when I click the link in
the email that is supposed to take me to an order status report, I am
just redirected to the .Net Passport Sign-in dialog. I don't have a
..Net Passport, and I don't want one, so I have no idea what actually
happened to my order.

Hmmm, I ran through it in a few minutes, including going back after
the Wait prompt to correct a typo. Maybe they are running it on an old
Win 3.1 WFW machine and I just got lucky?

I tried this just now. With active scripting enabled, I can't even
access the drop down menu for language version. When I click on it
there's a flash while it opens up and closes again. When I disable
scripting, I get the menu again, which leads to the interminable
"please wait" page....

Maybe the page just doesn't tolerate IE5.01
