Opening XLS files from within explorer

We have a problem on one users machine that when they
doubleclick on an xls file in explorer or on their desktop
the file fails to open. The error messages show that the
opening is not reading the full file name - basicaly it
is not handling spaces in the file name. If you go in and
delete the spaces by remaming the file it all works fine.

Anyone got any ideas??

Not sure... sounds like Windoze issue?

Just a thought... try creating a shortcut to the file, making sure th
shortcut name has no spaces, and see if that works

How about going into excel Tools Options General and unchecking Ignore other
Applications

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Thanks for the suggestion - we had to do this to resolve
the problem that no XLS would open from withing explorer -
will repost this in a general windows forum and if i get
an answer post it here.
