OPen file icons have disappeared from my start bar

I have tried everything and read everything in sight but to no avail. I have
moved, dragged expanded and done all of the normal things to "find" those
icons. they are not there. One or another downloads have deleted them from
a set up file. How do I get them back. Its relly a pain to always have to
Alt Tab to get to the next open program.
