A few days ago I started getting lag when opening files in my Emule
shared folder. I only get lag when accessing this folder. Even just
clicking to open it gets the lag going. If I right click to copy and
paste I get lag as well. Opening the file causes lag. Anything to do
with the folder causes the system to get bogged down. All other files
on the hard drive open and run normally.

A few days ago I had my computer on transferring files when we had a
power outage. Could this be the cause? I ran disk defragmenter and
did a spyware and virus scan with Bullgaurd and Spybot and AVG.
Nothing was detected. I also cleaned my registry and cleared my
cookies. None of this helped. I started thinking my drive may have
errors due to the power outages. I ran CHKDSK and I still got the same
lag on access to the folder.

Even files that had been downloaded much earlier before the power cut
are lagging upon opening. Now I'm thinking a spyware program is in
the directory and it just hasn't been detected. Spybot has the latest
updates and has immunized by system. I ran Xsoftspy as well and it
just detected cookies which I told it to delete.

In Taskmanager I noticed svchost is listed 5 times. I downloaded a
program called Process Explorer someone recommended and it shows them
all as originating in the windows directory. When I bring up Task
Manager I see that Explorer.exe is at 99% processor usage. The only
way to get rid of the lag once it starts is to close explorer and then
restart it.

I've also tried EasyCleaner to clean my registry. The last thing I
tried was a system restore to a previous point. This did not fix the
problem either. Any ideas on what could be causing this and a possible
fix? Besides an OS reinstall what can I do? Thanks.
