Firefox - new windows, lag time, about 20 seconds before the newwindow shows - any ideas?

Firefox - new windows, lag time, about 20 seconds before the new
window shows - any ideas?

This is a recent phenomenon - whenever I use Firefox and try to use
CNTL N or open new window (or if a link takes me to a new window),
there is sudden lag time of about 15-20 seconds before it appears.
Not sure why. Going to post in the firefox forum as well. Any ideas?

First thing go to the Task Manager, then the Processes tab, and see how
memory Firefox is using. The longer it is open, and the more tabs you open
and close, the more memory and the slower it gets. I've had mine well over
1 GB. When I do is to periodically close it, wait a few seconds for the
process to end. Then restart it.

Here a way to HELP the excessive memory usage. It's not a FIX but does work
to help control FF memory usage from v3 up. I just copied and paste what's
below from my notes:

This is by no means a REAL fix for Firefox memory leaks but it helps quite a
bit. This fix moves Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it and as a
result it will take up considerably less memory. Upon maximizing Firefox
will obviously increase the memory usage however it does not go back up to
the insane amount it consumed before minimizing. It may take Firefox a
little longer to maximize since it will be located on the hard drive.

Here are the steps:

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and press
Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize . Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.

Restart Firefox.

You can also set browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers value to 0.
That stops FF from using any caches for the back button. Inserting any
positive number will allow that number of pages to be stored (may have a
limit of 8).

The default is -1 which automatically determine the maximum amount of pages
to store in memory based on the total amount of RAM, as follows:
