Windows XP OL 2000 Error: unable to send test message. Please verify the E-mail Addres field

Outlook 2000 displays this message when attempting to test account settings for pop3.

unable to send test message. Please verify the E-mail Addres field

The same credentials and settings were used within OE6 and all works properly. Please advise. Thanks

Some quick checks for you.

1) Do you have the passwords set up in Outlook for EMail accounts, they do not always save when first put in.
2) Do you have the correct send by ie LAN or Dial-up account.

These can be overlooked and cause this type of problem.

1) The passwords are set to save and have been checked again.
2) The connection method is correct.

The issue remains. OE6 works while Outlook 2000 returns the error above.
