My son has a HP computer in which he had a new Nvidia nforce2 video "chip"
installed, along w/increased ram, etc..After the unit is on for awhile, it
goes to the "blue screen." Explorer msg comes up re; the shutdown and report
to msn, then after reboot the browser goes to site and says that the problem
was an incorrect driver for the respective chip. The chip has additional info
on it: MCP-t FB 2635.1.Iwent to the nvidia home sight for a download of a
proper driver, and cannot find which one I need based on the info. off of the
chip. What more do I need to get the correct driver?

Hi,

I think the driver you're looking for is here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.62_win2kxp.html

The part that troubles me however is that you say it runs OK for a while,
*then* the blue screen. If this continues to happen after the new driver is
installed, check for overheating.

Curt, Thanks. I'll try that site/url, and get back to you. I do believe that
heat may also be an issue as the comp initially ran well for a fairly long
period before cutting out. I probably wont get back to his comp. for a bit,
but will keep you updated.
Again, Thanks.

Jaymon,
Thanks for the info. I got a reply from Curt re: this issue, and am going
to use the driver he suggested. I also believe there may be a "heat" issue
involved, and may have to look to add a heat sink, or additional fan to the
chip. At any rate I will not be able to get back to his comp. right away. I
will reply with my results. Thanks.

Well, it's ultimately your call..
The only reason I posted, happened to notice Curt had provided a link for an
audio driver update, in checking for myself with the info you provided came
to my own conclusion that you might want a video driver, that's all, gave you
an option, you made your choice..The bottom line is I hope all goes well for
you either way..
Thank you for your courteous response..
Cheers

Hi Jaymon,

Good catch. I missed that it was audio.

Harpsp,

Open the case and record the motherboard number.
It will also help if you knew which socket type you have for the processor.

Good Luck!
