I have one of our servers that was originaly running a third party backup
tool. I know want to resume using NT Backup to preform the backups. I
completly removed the third party tool. I have a blank backup tape that I
put into the drive. I went to run NT Backup and it keeps erroring saying
that there is no uused media in the drive. I also do not see removable
storage insatlled on this server. I can connect to it through the admin
tiools and its tells me this is nopt installed. Does nT backup require this
to run. What steps do I need to follow to have NT Backup preform my backup
operations.

See tip 8967 » How do I prepare a tape for NTBackup to use?
in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsifaq.com and links.

Prepare all your tapes.

That would be great is I could prepare the media. Unfortuatly when I try
this I get an error saying a required resource is missing or something like
that. The tape drive has a big red x on it in removable storage.

Is it recognized by device manager?

Removeable Storage services uses the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtmsSvc

If it is present, make sure that the START value Name is not 4 (disabled). It should be 2.
Then you can shutdown and restart.
