For example, when I go to OfficeMax.com, and click on rebate, an IE box opens
and nothing appears. The same thing happens when I right click on a web
link and choose open in new window. Solutions?

You must uncheck the Enable third-party browser
extensions in your internet options. From IE select tools,
internet options, advanced and locate the Enable
third-party browser extensions. If it is checked, uncheck
it. Now of course, any third-party software you have
running, like a pop-up blocker for instance, that
application will no longer work. But you will be able to
open other URLs in IE.

I closed my firewall and the pop-up blocker, performed the above, opened IE 6
and still no luck. Just yesterday I was able to open loads of sites. I
can't even reach such a benign site as Officemax.com. I have no problems
with others but I still can't right click and open a new window that loads a
site. A blank IE window opens.

Found these instructions here and it did the trick!

http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

The regsvr32 urlmon.dll command changed everything back to normal.

If you get a blank page:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following
message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

5. Try this:

Go to Start | Run, and type SFC.
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Thanks for the feedback.

Don't mention it. That's the reason Google bought the newsgroups. Answers
to all OS/IE questions are in there if you query it right.
