can't right click on tab(s) in taskbar

hi. just started to notice the problem. computer runs on WinXP Pro fully
updated to the latest patch (last night it install a patch of WMP 11 and
something for XP itself). sufficient HD space (180GB on C and 200GB on D),
sufficient RAM (2GB physical) so I doubt that this has something to do with
the hardware.

the problems are:

1. opening IE (clicking on the IE icon on quick launch) will produce a
blinking IE tab. not usually happening, but it happens now. the same happens
when double clicking in IE icon on desktop. the same also happens on any
program opened. just tried to open Window Explorer and it came on blinking. :(

2. there is no way to right click on the blinking tab. ALSO VERY ANNOYING!

3. opening more than 1 tab will produce more ANNOYING blinking tabs and
there is no way to stop the blinking unless I click on the browser navigation
icon on top. then again, I can't minimize or close it. usually I can get
these options by just right clicking on the tab itself, now those tabs just
blinking helplessly and annoying-ly (if that's even an actual word). I'm only
able to minimize, resize, or close the tab on the top (where the underscore,
box, and red X are).

PLEASE HELP ME REGAIN CONTROL OF MY TABS IN THE TASKBAR AND LET ME DO A
RIGHT CLICK ON EACH OF THEM! I'm annoyed enough as it is now. ugh. thank you
for reading and sorry for those screaming. I had to let it out or else.

hi there mr. Edwards,

I'm still using IE 6. I read too many horror stories of incompatibility when
upgrading to IE 7 so I'm sticking to IE 6. maybe when XP had reached EOL,
I'll think about updating to IE 7.. or maybe version 8 by then :)
