Novice: "Network Connections" problem -

In this dialogue box, under LAN or High Speed Internet is shows a local area
connection as being connected.

Then "Local area connection 1" using 'Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network
Connection' as being 'limited or disconnected' status and a little internet
icon appears in the bottom tool tray with a yellow 'caution' sign
superimposed over it.

This seems to be a necessary component for my internet DSL connection to
work. My DSL modem is a WestTell...should there be a driver or something
loaded for that?

Have loaded the latest drivers for this device.

When I try to enable it...it works for a long time "acquiring network
address", then reverts to the limited state mentioned above.

How can I get this to be 'connected'? and get that little tray icon to go
away?

Thanks,
