LAN connection after SP2 install on XP

SP2 install resulted in Local Area Connection symbol in
Sys Tray that has ! in triangle and notice that "Status=
limited or no connectivity"
I connect to Internet using DSL modem connected to PC with
ethernet cable to Realtek PCI NIC card. Connection seems
to work, but LAN indicator light on modem is not
illuminated, plus dumb little network symbol is in tray.
Using the "repair" button in Network Connections - LAN
or HS Internet on Control Panel resulted in "unable to
obtain IP address" message. Internet seems to work okay.
Should I worry about a fix or just deselect the "Notify me
when this connection has limited or no connectivity" in
Properties box and just get on with my life?

It's easy to get rid of the status indicator. Just go to Network Connections
properties for "Local Area Network" connection and uncheck the "Notify me
when this connection has limited or no connectivity" checkbox. The bigger
question may be whether the inoperative network layer has any impact on
services. I've noticed a delay in URL resolution since installing SP2. That
may indicate DNS queries are timing out on "Local Area Network" before
finding your DSL connection. Others have reported actual failures in
conferencing applications. This uncertainty may lead me to back of of SP1.
Didn't MS do any network testing before releasing SP2?

SP2 has created nothing but problems for my network consiting of four
computers, three running XP PRO and one running 98. I found that dissabling
the firewall will give you back the connectivity of your network but you lose
the firewall. You can also try going the the exeptions in the win firewall
properties and telling it not to add the firewall to the network connection.
This way only the interenet connection itself has the firewall running and
you can freely go back and forth between computers in your network. Good luck.
