Network icon in Systray not hideable

P

Peter Hanke

On my mothermboard there are two network connectros one for 100Mbit and another for 1000Mbit.

Currently I use the 100mbit.

Unfortuantely the icon for the 1000Mb connector does appear permanently as well.
When I hover over it the bubble tells me "network cable is unplugged".
When I look at the properties dialog then both options
- Show icon in notification area when connected
and
- Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity

are disabled/unchecked.

So why does this icon appear in Systray area anyway?

You haven't said what operating system you are using. However, the icon
for your network will always appear in the SysTray whether or not you
are using it by plugging a cable to it. If you don't want this icon to
appear permanently, then right click on the icon and then:

1) Select open network Connections
2) Right-Click on Network Area Connection (whatever it is called on your
system)
3) Select Properties (this is the last item in BOLD)
4) At the bottom there are two check boxes which are both self
explanatory. Remove the check mark from both or just from the first item.

Hope this helps but if you want further help then please post back here.

Good luck.

Likely not being connected over-rides the other settings. Have you tried
simply disabling the unused network connection. Under XP it's found in
Control Panel/Network Connections. Right click on the unused connection and
select Disable. That's how I stop it appearing on pc's that aren't using
their nic.

Try checking those two options, then "OK" your way out.
After that, go back in and uncheck them again and "OK" your way out.
Sometimes that will work.
