Turn off Network Connection systray Icons

Is there anyway (without using the "Hide inactive icons") to permanently turn
off the network icons. I have a third party wireless software package, but
the windows default icon also shows up. Also, the LAN connection keeps
showing that the network cable is unplugged (again, I know it is unplugged
because I'm using my wireless NIC). It would be nice to be able to just shut
off the icons permanently. Does anyone know how?

To hide the system tray icon for a network connection, right-click the
connection, click Properties, and un-check "Show icon in notification
area when connected".

To prevent the "unplugged" message, un-check "Notify me when this
connection has limited or on connectivity".

Even better, right-click and disable the LAN connection that you're
not using.

I've done as you suggest with the connection properties and I still get the
icon when the cable is not plugged in or a wireless connection is not
available.

I could disable the connection(s), but I need the LAN connection for work
and the WAN for home.

Just right-click on the LAN adapter and choose disable. This will remove the
icon. When you need it again, right-click and choose enable.
