wired connection not working

David

I've got a laptop on my LAN. It can access the LAN just fine
wirelessly but not with it's wired connection. In my Network
Connections folder I have the following:

1394 Connection (Connected)
AGN Virtual Network Adapter (Acquiring network address)
Local Area Connection (Disabled)
Local Area Connection 3 (Network cable unplugged)
Wireless Network Connection (Connected)

When I try to Enable the Local Area Connection, I'm told that the
operation has failed. Any ideas what might be at play here?

TIA,
David

The AGN Virtual Network Adapter is associated with a VPN. Apparently your
laptop is still trying to connect to the VPN and not your home network when
it's wired. The Local Area Connection (disabled) is probably for your wired
connection so enable it and the machine won't try to use the VPN
connection.

.... so enable it and the machine won't try to use the VPN
connection.

As I said in my original note, I'm told that the connection fails when
I attempt to enable it.

Might this be related to a router issue? FYI, I have a new router.
Note that I have other computers with wired connections that are
working just fine.

Thanks,
David

When you try to enable the NIC or the VPN? I read the above statement as
when you try to enable the NIC. This has nothing to do with the router.
What VPN do you have installed that you need to connect to?

This is when I try to enable the Local Area Connection which I assume
is the NIC.

Not sure how to respond. I use the AT&T Network Client to access my
company's intranet. Does that answer your question? BTW, my VPN is
working fine over the wireless connection.

Thanks,

Yes, it answers my question. Apparently your wired connection is going to
the VPN only and not your local network. Sometimes you can have problems
with VPNs when your home network is on the same subnet; i.e., both networks
192.168.1.xxx. If this is your case, try changing your home network to
another private scheme such as 10.0.0.0 or 172.16.0.0.

Other than that, I'd suggest you ask your company IT people about it.
