Yeah - don't do it. I've been involved in a lot of them, and the first
question asked is, "What is the business reason for doing this?" and all
they can do is quote M$-paid for studies that show the alleged benefits.
There are none.
AD/Exchange 2003 is hard enough to manage without having to migrate data
and Directory Services over.
If you MUST do it, about all I can say is to ensure you have reliable
backups, someone who knows AD/Exc 2003 like the back of their hand, give
plenty of time to accomplish it, test the heck out of it, and make sure
you have the 'after-install' support staff in place - not because it
will fail, but you know when people are exposed to something new, there
will be plenty of "how do I...?" questions that will have to be
addressed. No matter how well you communicate "what's new?" with
everything, there will always be some who will never read it and will
still flood the call center with questions; some very basic, some pretty
intricate.
Not sure how much this helps, but I've never been a fan of moving from
one Directory Services and email structure to another, regardless of
source and destination. It always causes pain, no matter how
well-planned it is.
