Notification Area icon

There is an icon in my notification area that doesn't seem to do
anything and I want to remove it. Right / left clicking on the icon
does nothing, and hovering the mouse pointer only brings up the word,
'icon', helpfully :)

Any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Start | run | msconfig - startup tab

Can you find the offending item there? Try disabling all, then reenabling
them one at a time & restarting each time to see if you can isolate it.

Have you got good antivirus software? run anti-spyware tools such as
AdAware/Spybot to look for junk/parasites?

You can attempt to identify the application or program: right click on the item and choose Properties. From there you may even identify the location of the file or .ex
