Not detecting my CD & DVD Drives

I am having some problems. My computer is not detecting my cd or dvd drives. I even replaced the cd-rw drive, but it is not detecting the new one either. I have run updates and everything else is working fine, except for the drives. HELP. I am running windows xp home.
