Hello,

Have Windows XP / Desk / AMD processor - 4 yrs old.

Upon boot - auto detect does not detect the Sec Master nor the Sec
Slave which are the internal CD/R and CD/DVD R/W drives.

After boot, explore does not show either device and Device Manager
does not show either device.

Can open CD/R drive, insert CR, hear spin but device will not play.
CD/DVD R/W will not open.

No Problem with disk drives nor operation of computer nor working on
Internet.

Any help will be appreciated.

Doug Knox's script, as MAP recommends, often works IF the BIOS is
detecting the drives. In your case it will NOT work, because the BIOS
is not even detecting them. If you don't see the drives identified
during POST, check the data cables. If you can't get them detected by
reseating the cable at the motherboard's connector and at the drives'
connectors, then you may have a faulty motherboard IDE connector. If
that's the case, you needn't chuck the motherboard; just purchase a
relatively inexpensive PCI IDE controller and connect the optical
drives to that.
