re autoplay

My Father's computer seems to have stopped detecting the insertion of
music/data discs on both his CD/DVD drives. No prompt box appears after the
disc is inserted. I have checked the autoplay settings on the drives under
"My Computer", but even though all options are set to "Prompt Me", nothing
happens... any ideas?
