Norton problems

The other day I removed Norton Ghost which seemed to be causing some
problems. Since then almost every time I try to check Norton Protected
Files in the Recycle Bin the computer freezes up. Did the Ghost uninstall
remove something critical? Sometimes I can still check them with no
problem. I didn't have this Bin problem before the uninstall.

And you're posting this here because...?! This group is for issues with
Windows XP's Help and Support Centre, not third party applications installed
thereunder. If you're having issues with Norton, then guess where you need
to go...?

And how did you 'uninstall Ghost'?

WHat were the problems it casued that made you remove it?

Try reinstalling Ghost and this time, make sure that you remove it from the
Start Up folder:
use START> RUN
tye in MSCONFIG and press OK
click on the Startup tab
remove the 'tick' next to Ghost Tray

This stops Ghst from loading every time you boot: so you need to launbch it
manually: a much better solution.

Aren't you amazed at the number of problems that Norton causes on this ng
and others and people swear by it! Just if MAC had thier marketing ability!
(and I'm not a mac fan)

If you can come up with any acceptable reason why it's definitely impossible
that the problem with Norton Ghost is in any way connected to incompatibity
with XP, I suggest you move your acidity to another NG - e.g.
"moaner.sarcasticpommy"

I suppose you realise you did actually respond to the 'help-and-support' XP
NG.

How many groups have to keep telling you...
alt.binaries.i.really.need.a.good.lay is
THAT-A-WAY ------------------->

John;
You may not understand the purpose of this particular newsgroup.
It is not just to give "help-and-support" for Windows XP Problems.
General questions should go to the windowsxp.general newsgroup if no other
newsgroup applies.
This newsgroup is intended for problems relating to the Help and Support
feature of Windows XP.

Sorry, Jupiter, I fully understand the origins andn original purpose of this
NG; (also that the Compatibility Listing check prior to converting to or
installing XP is also related to queries not covered by "Start/Help and
Support", which is incidently related to combatibility of various 3rd. party
progs to XP), so consider my reply to be valid.

Besides, I've sick to death of P.T.'s snide, unhelpful S.A. comments.

I think this NG has spread its wings more than slightly since its conception
and main purpose - so if you don't ask tthe question " is this problem
specifically related to XP or just a PEBCAK" if you don't ask?
All you need is one person who's experienced a similar problem and has
eventually pinned it down specifically to an XP problem to make the NG
worthwhile.

John;
I realize the scope of this newsgroup has spread.
I was only posting because it seemed to me you thought as so many others
that this was a "help and support" newsgroup instead of support for "Help
and Support".
Many questions asked here would get better and quicker answers in the
correct newsgroup.
As well the correct posts for this newsgroup would be better served without
all the off topic posts.

But since many do not realize the difference, I as well as others largely
ignore that unless it seems someone thinks this is a "help and support"
newsgroup.

Because, you nasty, unpleasant girl (?), it is an XP-related issue.

There is no activity on the Norton/Symantec newsgroups. They are all but
dead. However, Norton is a major software manufacturer as you probably
know, so it figures that many people here probably have experience with it.

I am hardly the first person to ask about a third party program regarding XP
interaction.

Totally agree. The problem lies in the wording of the NG title. For a newbie
it gives them the impression that it is exactly the NG they are looking for.

I guess it's a matter of 'time moves on' & it's now just another MS-XP
'help' NG :-)

The only solution I can see is for regulars to "very politely" recommend
that their query will probably receive more responses if re-sent to the xxx
NG.
