I am experiencing the exact same problem on my laptop. Recently, the Norton
Protected Recycle bin has mysteriously stopped working. No files ever appear
in the Unerase Wizard, and the Empty Norton Protected Files popup menu option
on the Recycle Bin icon is always disabled / grey / grayed out. The only
files that ever show in the Unerase Wizard / All Protected Files display are
those that are in the regular, Windows Recycle Bin. And I thought that these
aren't supposed to show up anyway.
Attempts so far to fix have been:
Attempt 1) Disabled Norton Protection, Emptied Windows Recycle Bin, shelled
to DOS and removed C:\Recycler\Nprotect\*.*, C:\Recycler\Nprotect, and even
C:\Recycler
Result 1) No change.
Attempt 2) Started Add/Remove Programs, navigated to Norton SystemWorks,
chose Modify, unchecked Norton Protection and Antivirus (uninstalling these
components), rebooted, re-installed components via add/remove programs.
Result 2) No change
Attempt 3) Started Add/Remove Programs, navigated to Norton SystemWorks,
chose Remove, completely uninstalling all of SystemWorks. Then, rebooted,
reinstalled from CD.
Result 3) No change, except now I've lost any Norton preferences and
settings.
I'm fresh out of ideas. Have you had any luck diagnosing or fixing?
