Recycle bin always empty - b/c of Norton?

Hi there,

Problem: My recycle bin is always empty; never has anything in it, and
the desktop icon always shows "empty." When I right click the icon to
empty it, "Empty Recycle Bin" is grayed out and can't be clicked (Same
with using File>Empty Recycle Bin). Also, I have checked the
Properties>Global Tab on my Recycle Bin and unchecked "Do not move
files to recycle bin," so that's not the problem. When I delete
things, they just disappear! I have no idea where they go because the
Recycle Bin doesn't work.

Norton: As I said, I've had two past Norton programs on my computer
before (now on my 3rd one...don't ask). They were Norton Internet
Security 2003 (I think) and Norton Systemworks 2004; one of which
installed the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin." I now am using Norton
Internet Security 2006 on Windows XP Home Edition and the problem still
remains.

I downloaded and used the program Treesize Professional 4 the other day
to see where my memory is being used on my computer, and 10GB were
still being used up by "Nprotect" which was the Norton Protected
Recycle Bin from a past program (essentially 10 GB of old deleted files
from 2 years ago)...something I thought I got rid of using Add/Remove
Programs and the "symnrt.exe" Norton Removal Tool. What's with that?
Norton stuff must still be on my computer. Does this relate to my
recycle bin problem?

Also, I don't have the 2003 or 2004 versions anymore so there is no
"Norton" tab in my Recycle Bin preferences to change anything. I'm a
novice computer user but want to get my recycle bin back to normal.
What do I do??

Thanks,

Ryan

Snipped some.
You`ve probably been well Nortoned.
Search your machine for Norton, and also Symantec.

Then do a Start\Run type in `regedit` then search first `Norton`
and scan the Registry.
Then do the same for Symantec.

you`ll probably find loads of entries, but Don`t delete unless
you know what you`re doing.

Norton might not have anything to do with this situation. There
is an option in Recycle Bin for the user not to store deleted
items there. Right click on Recycle Bin and look in Properties.
Look in the Global tabs...is the box checked for deleted files to
bypass the recycle bin?

No. I checked that already, the box is not checked so things *should*
be going to my recycle bin. Any other ideas? I'll try the Microsoft
link now. Thanks,

The Norton uninstall program doesn't remove all of Norton.
