Norton problem

I apologize for posting here, but I'm not getting a response anywhere else.
I volunteer at a senior citizens' facility and help people with computer
problems. One of the people I work with has NAV 2004 and encounters a
LU1875 error when running Live Update. When his family moved him into the
facility, a lot of his belongings were lost or misplaced including all of
his original disks. Consequently, he does not have his NAV disk. Ideally,
I would like to uninstall and reinstall NAV, but without disks it's not
possible. I would like to try and fix the problem by at least reinstalling
Live Update.

Does anyone know if the latest version of Live Update available for download
from the Symantec site is NAV version specific? In other words, can I
download and install the current LU version without causing a problem with
his NAV 2004 software? All the Symantec site will tell me is that 2004 is
no longer supported and answers to questions are not available.

He is running XP SP2 with all current updates installed.

Thank you again for your help and I again apologize for posting a NAV
problem on this XP site.

Thanks for the help. My problem is I can't uninstall and reinstall because
he doesn't have his install disks. I would like to reinstall just Live
Update from the Symantec site and see if that fixes his Live Update problem.

My question at this time is:

Is the latest version of Live Update available for download from the
Symantec site NAV version specific? In other words, can I download and
install the latest version of Live Update from the Symantec site even
though he has an older version of NAV (2004)? Are the two compatible?

Thanks again for your help.

Thank you all very much. I'm really touched by your sincere effort to help
and for your offer to walk me through solutions.

I will follow the instructions to download the updates via Intelligent
Updater and place the updates on a CD. I can then take the CD to his place
for installation. He's on a dial-up connection, so having the ability to
download the updates on my broadband connection and take them to him for
installation is ideal.

I'm also glad to hear that the Intelligent Update will fix his problem. If
Intelligent Update doesn't automatically fix his problem, it looks like I
can install the latest version of Live Update. That I can also put on a CD
for installation at his room.

Thank you again for your help. I really appreciate it. It looks like I
have a solution for a person whose only real contact with the outside world
is through his computer.

You dont need the installation disks, you manually remove, as per info in
the links
A problem with Liveupdate, or for that matter many Norton probs require that
Norton be completely uninstalled and cleaned prior to a reinstall
So if youve lost the installation disks your basically screwed, in that you
cannot reinstall.
Use AVG and ZoneAlarm both free

Windows XP and XP2 work just fine. Your's is NOT an OS problem, but a
Nortons problem. Use one of the many FREE anti-virus programs if you are
having a problem with Nortons, and Nortons cant, or, refuses to help.
