When I have NAV 2004 set on auto protect, my system has a critical default
and reboots. When I shut off auto protect, this error stopped. I am running
a AMD Athlon XP 1800+ on a ECS montherboard, 1 gig of ram with Windows XP
SP1 (fully up to date with auto update). My laptop, which also has windows
XP and NAV 2004 does not have this problem.

Any thoughts?

Kevin

This isn't an XP error, the problem is with the application. Try the Norton
AV website:
www.symantec.com

Also, they used to have their own support groups at this location as well.

Well since AutoProtect IS Norton Antivirus running in the background
protecting you from being infected, and if it has a problem with your
hardware/software/drivers that's causing this error, and you can't pinpoint
what's causing the error, and your system is working fine otherwise, then
uninstall Norton, and see if the FREE version of AVG Antivirus will run
without problems. AVG's Resident Shield is the equivalent of Norton
Antivirus AutoProtect.

I've been using the FREE Edition of AVG for almost two years. Using the
Free Edition of AVG, and the Free Standard version of Zone Alarm Firewall,
my Windows XP system hasn't ever been infected by any virus/worm. There are
many opinions on which Antivirus software is better, or best. I have had
bad experiences with Norton ever since it was bought by Symantec. It has
evolved from a simple Antivirus utility to its present version. Norton now
has a graphics intensive GUI, and is now system resource hogging bloatware,
which requires subscription fees to update. The final insult was when
Symantec closed the Norton Antivirus news groups. I believe that AVG does
as good or even a better job than Norton Antivirus, using less system
resources. You also can't complain about the price of the FREE version of
AVG, which is all you really need. The AVG 7 version might have some added
features, but all I'm concerned about is that the Resident Shield in the
free version blocks viruses/worms. You can download the AVG Free Edition
at:

There's some copy at the site that might try to influence you download the
TRIAL version of the NOT FREE AVG Antivirus 7, ignore that. By the way,
updating virus definitions with AVG is faster than with Norton's bloated GUI
update. Be sure to UNINSTALL Norton, BEFORE installing AVG.

.
Are you sure its the anti-virus? Wednesday update for
their firewall has wreaked havoc on my system.Seems to be
symproxy.exe to be the culprit.
