Norton Antivirus 2004 Causes CD-ROM Problems

Guest

I am running XP with SP1 and just installed Norton Antivirus 2004 Pro. After the installation, both my CD-Rom and CD Burner suddly were unable to read files from the CDs. The CD-ROMs show up in Windows Explorer and My Computer, but the files cannot be displayed nor accessed. When I uninstall NAV 2004, the problem goes away. I am also running Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.3.5 and have Nero IN-CD installed but am not using it. The latest version of Zone Alarm Basic is also running. I think there is a conflict between NAV 2004 and one of the above mentioned programs, but am unable to trouble shoot the issue. None of the knowledge bases I have seen (Microsoft, Symantec, Roxio) address this particular problem.

Any ideas?

I've seen a few posts re InCd causing variuos probs, if you installed it,
its likely to be a running task. Use msconfig to prevent it starting or
uninstall - particularly if you dont use it.
If you installed Nav04 then desinstalled, ensure you followed Symantec
advice re removing all entries/folders etc. before attempting a reinstall.
Follow Symantec advice re 'clean install' - basically ensure all other apps
terminated, including task bar apps - they even used to go as far as to
installing in vga mode

Norton 2004 is more like a virus than anything that it is supposed to
prevent.

My suggestion is to go back to your previous version or product and
wait until Symantec gets Norton 2004 updated so that it is at least
usable.

Good luck

I have no problem wirh NAV 2004. I too have a similar config to the OP's
config. I could be a problem with Roxio DirectCd and Nero INCD, since both
"seem" to be installed.
