Every time that I shut-down the computer, I hear a noise originate from the floppy disk drive, as if he tried to read a disk that however there is not. Can someone explain me the cause and as to eliminate this problem ?

Hi Dany,

It's probably your antivirus software set to check for floppies left in the
drive (booting an infected floppy is not a good idea). Check the program
settings.

Hi,

You should find it in the options and settings of the Norton AV software.

In that case I'll lose all protections. It's possible to partially disable the Norton A/V ?

Hi,

No, you won't lose all protection, you just want to disable the av floppy
scan on shutdown.

Hi Dany,

Open Norton's program from the start/all programs menu, look under tools,
settings, or options for a line that refers to scanning the floppy drive. I
cannot tell you specifically where it is, as I do not use this version of
the software (I use an earlier corporate version at work, and I do know the
option exists).

We Live For The One We Die For The One

Remove the Floppy and put ina box in a DarkDark place.

Then get a mobo that supports boot from USB device, stick ect, and
install a dront panel in your case with usb ports, then your noisy
floppy days will be over.

Usb sticks don't make any noise :)

i do have norton antiv 2004 with no problems except the ccapp error message which only appears after the (new) floppy drive noise freezes (sticks) on shutdown.

i thought your answer was the solution to my problem except that my problem is more extreme. the noise (without the error message) is most everytime i click on the floppy drive or just click 'copy' and then click the floppy drive (never completing the save) and also when i open outlook express. the light comes on and the noise is terrible. it does it on power on and shutdown and when coming out of standby.

do you still think this is related to av 2004

disabling the floppy drive scan in nv2004 stopped the shutdown noise. i won't know until sometime today whether or not it fixed the other occurences. i will post back here when i find out.
