floppy drive seeking

I have a user with Windows XP and her pc continually makes terrible noises,
come to find out the terrible noise is her pc seeking the floppy disk and
there isn't one in there. She is not running any application at the time
that would be asking for a floppy such as word or anything either. It is
very irritating as the noise does not stop until you stick a disk in the
drive. She cannot use the pc without a floppy in it and of course always
forgets to take it out on restart which gives her the non system disk error
and then she calls me for that.

Please save me!

Her pc will boot into XP and she will be fine. She turns to talk to me and
it then started to seek a floppy and I swear she was not running any
application or touching the keyboard or mouse. Some times it will stop this
in a few minutes other times it will be continous, this last time it did it
for 12 minutes then it stopped.

Could be caused by the anti virus software, look for an option to disable
it.
Can also be caused by the recent documents shortcuts, if one points to a
file on a floppy. Clear the recent documents list.
