no word icon

help
i am a novice with computers when i start up then click
programes the word icon is missing what have i done i can
use word through a shrt cut only

You mean there's no icon on the Start menu? Lots of ways to resolve it, you
could drag the shortcut to the Start menu, if this is a recent issue you
could use System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this began
(Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore) or you could
simply reinstall Word. If you have it as a part of MS Office Suite, just
insert the CD and choose to either reinstall Word or do a repair install of
Office, if you have the Word CD, if it doesn't have a repair option, try
reinstall.
