No video after Vista install

I have an HP Pavilion a1310n with an AMD Athlon XP 3700+, an ASUS A8AE-LE
motherboard, 1GB RAM, and an nVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB video card. I have
seen in several threads that people have had issues with ASUS A8 logic boards
and Windows Vista, but my situation is a little unique.

I run an Apple 23" Cinema HD display with DVI to my GeForce 6600 video card
and all is well on installation until reboot. The system boots to the initial
loading screen "Windows 2006" with the moving grey lines, then the video
blacks out completely and sometimes my monitor just doesn't get a signal at
all. I can boot to Safe Mode but even after installing the nVIDIA x86 drivers
for Vista I get no video when booting to Vista in normal mode. It's like it
doesn't want to acknowlege my video card or it does not like my Apple 23"
LCD. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have tried installing both the
32-bit and 64-bit Vista but I got further with the 32-bit and will probably
stick with that if I can get my video to work.

my friend is trying to do the same thing. He gets the monitor sometimes
flashes orange (he has the apple cinema 22"). But he can still hear windows
loading (such as messenger making sounds).

He has an ATI X1800.

After looking through the forums thoroughly, almost anyone with DVI is having
issues. I think DVI is a no-go with Beta 2, and I hope Microsoft puts out an
update quick. I ordered the DVDs and now I can't even see Vista in anything
but Safe Mode. It sucks. You'd think Microsoft would anticipate that people
were using digital monitors but they've got a long way to go.

Trouble with DVI? I have DVI connected to my Dell 2007WFP and it works just
fine.

Or do you mean with apple cinema?

I guess I should rephrase that: Vista Beta 2 + nVIDIA + DVI = Problems.
That's what I'm hearing from other posts here. Some folks have ATI video
cards and they appear to work OK in most cases with DVI. I stopped trying to
mess with Vista Beta 2 and erased the HD, loaded openSuSE 10.1 Linux, xGL,
and Compiz and just had some fun using an OS that actually works for a
change. I have been using 64-bit Linux for a while and had high hopes
Microsoft would be able to match it, but they've got a long way to go...
Thanks to all who posted here. Doesn't seem to be much I can do to solve this
issue until Microsoft or nVIDIA come up with a fix, or maybe I wait around
until Release Candidate 1 to get functional video...

okay, this is why it was released as a beta, to discover EXACTLY these issues
and resolve them before the partner release.... i mean... if you expected
the BETA copy to work flawlessly, maybe your should looke inward instead of
outward for the blame.

that said i'm having similiar issues with a geforce 7600 GS + DVI. When i
load the Aero UI it works for roughly 30min, then i get bizzare artifacting
in the entire window where it "flashes" in and out of transparency. I'm
using the 87.45 drivers becuase nvidia's latest drivers either result in my
machine not loading video, or it does load video by the best way i can
describe it is that i don't see video, i see video wrapping around the screen
so tightly it looks like it's pinstripped..

If anyone has any solutions, lmk.

thanks.

No, but i'm able to boot live CD's and i have non of these issues. Also, i
was running windows XP with no issue prior to installing Windows Vista Beta
2, so i don't think an install would dislodge the video card...

with PCI Express, it's all or nothing, the socket is designed to lock the
card in place preventing any kind of flex on the board...

thanks for the tip though,

austin

I am drawing a blank too. Literally.

nVidia Ge-Force 6600 with (you guessed it) DVI-I.

Beta 2 ran OK on my nV 5200 card. I upgraded to the 6600 and it woulnd't
install the new driver. It would still boot in to VGA resolution. Looks like
the problem got worse on RC1. Things are supposed to improve, aren't they?

Compatibility is a very important thing to most people. I hope MS
understands the import of these problems.

If you have upgraded to the RC1 version of Vista download the 96.33 NVIDIA
Vista RC1 drivers. If necessary boot into the safe mode and install the
drivers from there.

Actually, I fixed it earlier today by unpluging the DVI cable. I am using DVI
to HDMI for my HDTV.

Before this I couldn't see anything on my VGA monitor or the DVI. Unplug it
and my monitor works fine.

I would have updated this after I did it, but RC1 was having trouble
displaying these forums. I had to return to XP to make the post. Funny, isn't
it? Fix one bug, find another...

FireFox, this web site made an error now. Is it in pre-release also? Now lets
try MSIE...)
