Can't install with GeForce 8800 GTS?

Hello,
since I installed my new GeForce 8800 GTS I'm not able to boot into Vista
Home Premium 64 bit anymore.
I always get a BSOD like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or 0x0000007E.
I even tried to make a new installation, but the process ends up abruptly
with one of those errors.
The new video card works perfectly under Windows XP and I was able to
complete the installation when I had my old 6600 GT.
Any suggestions?
Regards.

Try an F8 safe mode boot and then download the latest 8800 Vista drivers
from the NVIDIA Website and then install them and again try a normal boot.

boot to safe mode and remove the video drivers and reinstall the new drivers
from nvidia for the 88xx

If you have an Asus motherboard, the problem IS the motherbaord, to make it
work you will need to change it

I know I did, I had an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, with the latest BIOS, and it was
working great in XP, but a big no go in Vista

I updated today to a Foxconn C51xxxx, motherbaord and every thing is working
as advirtise

Hi Martin,
thank you for your suggestion, but I've spent a lot of money on this system
and I'm not going to change the motherboard because I received a BSOD.
The PC is running flawlessly under Windows XP, so, the problem IS Windows
Vista.
It's just a matter of finding good, working drivers.

Hi JW,
I fixed the installation issues.
I forgot to mention I even added 2 more gigabytes of DDR2 RAM to the system
and it looks like Vista has got a problem, in certain circumstances, with
more than 3 GB of RAM:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777/en-us

I tried to remove 2 GB of RAM and the installation completed without glitches.
The only remaining problem is installing a working set of drivers for the
8800 GTS.
I tried the one available via Windows Update and the Forceware 100.65, but
both of them give me a 0x0000007E stop error pointing to the driver
"nvlddmkm.sys".
If I uninstall the drivers and let Vista recognize the graphics card as a
standard VGA card, it boots again.
Any suggestions?
Regards.

Hi BigJim,
I tried both the drivers available via Windows Update and the Forceware
100.65, but they return me a 0x0000007E stop error pointing to the driver
"nvlddmkm.sys".
If I uninstall the drivers and let Vista run the graphics card as a
standard VGA adapter, the OS boots again.
Any suggestions?

Some users have reported problems with Vista when using an odd number of
DDR2 memory dimms or a pairs memory dimms where both dimms were not the same
make.

Hi JW,
thank you for your reply.
I'm currently using only a matched pair of DDR2 memory modules, because I
removed the 2nd kit.
I don't think the problem is related to the modules (before getting this
8800 GTS, I had two 6600 GT's and they worked fine under Vista with the very
same RAM).
Regards.

Nvidia just released new 101.41 drivers that have lots of fixes for 8xxx
cards in them according to the release notes. So I suggest you read their
release notes and if it looks like the new drivers would be of benefit to
you then download and install them.

Hi JW,
unfortunately, ForceWare 101.41 feature the same issue for me (0x0000007E
pointing to nvlddmkm.sys).
The only working drivers, so far, are ForceWare 100.30 (available at
3dguru.com web site).
All other releases after that one have got the BSOD issue with my
configuration.
Regards.
