upgrading from XP causes BSOD in Vista 32 bit

Hello-

When I tried to upgrade from Windows XP to the 32 bit Vista RTM, the first
boot into Vista BSODs. Does anyone know if I have incompatible hardware?

I have:
ASUS A8N-E Nvidia NForce 4 based motherboard w/ Athlon 64 3000. 2 GB of RAM
Nvidia 6600 based video card
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy soundcard (I realize there aren't drivers for
this yet)
Using onboard gigabit ethernet
3 SATA hard drives (was trying to ugprade Western Digital 10K RPM 76 GB
drive with 30 GB free)

That's about it. I also have about 10 items connected to the USB ports. I
probably should have tried unplugging all of those items.

I ended up restoring XP. I tried repairing the Vista install, but alas I'm
not allowed to repair it until it's fully installed!

Thanks for any help!

BTW, (and not sure if it matters) - I was trying to load the Ultimate version.

Thanks again.

Make sure to uninstall all your software with warnings and all firewalls and
A/V. Best to also unplug your USB devices until after the upgrade.
Personally I have had no luck with upgrades.

First - XP can be upgraded "properly" to Vista and second - should not be
necessary to"inactivate" or remove a second HD. With XP on one HD and
installing Vista on a second drive is the basis for creating a dual boot
system - as covered greatly in the newsgroup.
However with a dual boot situation, uninstalling Vista from the second drive
can, and does, create XP boot problems -also adequately discussed in the
newsgroups.
Areas of concern, other than the "loaded" USBs, probably are the graphics
board and SATA drives.
